I'm having to wait about 3-5 weeks for my intel based pc to have both of it's rma's sorting so I'm going to get an amd based pc in the mean time.

I'm taking the am3 phenom II x4 3.2Ghz cpu and need a board but I haven't looked as amd boards as closely as intel boards as late so I'm a bit off.

I think I'll spend about the same on the board as the cpu so got a budget of £150.

Been looking at both the;

Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
ASUS M4A79T Deluxe

I've had no problems with GB boards and the RMA on my intel is on an asus motherboard, so reluctant there, but I know the ai tweaker is much better on it.

Has anyone got any feedback on those boards or got any other alternatives?

Cheers

I've seen the board before and loved the black blue vibe.

To be bluntly honest I didn't realise how competitive the prices on here were. The shop I usually use is a little cheaper on the cpu but they only have 4 AM3 boards and I'm frilled that we have more boards on here.

It's not fair to be restricted to a limited number of boards but at least I know that the price range is so similar it's not worth the aggravation over a few pound to get a better board.

One site I looked at earlier was charging £50 more for a board to the site I usually use and the board on here is around the same price too.

Can't really help ya on the board question although the tests i've read on the gigabyte board say it's good. I'm further out of the loop than you being as i'm upgrading from SocketA..

I'm looking at a PhenomII x2 rig, and i've provisionally decided on the gigabyte as i can't find any major issues highlighted with it, although I'm going for the XT rather than FXT.

If i find anything major, i'll come back and let you know. I'm really finding out on this one because i remember the old days when gigabyte were terrible, i still don't trust them.

The MSI seems like an awesome board to be honest. Reviews are really good and its current price at about £130 is ridiculous. Snap it up naow.

Thinking about the Crosshair III lol

Just looking at stock temps to see if I can find a good fan.

Zalman 9900 looks the best as I thought, seems to save 18c at max load

Been looking at a bug report/fix thread about the GA-MA790 and it seems it can be a bit finnicky about how you set it in terms of voltages whilst overclocking - slightly buggy bios - but once set is good.

Plenty of oc info on it if you google, lots of good reports.
