Recommendations for scanning slides/transparencies

I've managed to liberate my dad's collection of slides from my mum
All told there were about 3,500, and I've whittled that down to around 300 - more than 50% were landscapes so they just hit the bin immediately
Anybody have any recommendations of companies that'll scan them for me, or feedback on ones you may have used?

I'm a bit concerned about the best way to keep track of what's what when I send them off, because they are in around 60 individual boxes that have been painstakingly labelled by me (not to mention hours spent grouping slides together where someone obviously took a look one day with little care taken, and shoved them back randomly). I'm guessing that I'll be sending them off in a single large box, and they will get all mixed up on return. I'm looking for good ideas to be able to reassemble then into order

Assuming that I'll want to get some of the printed, say 6"x4", what resolution should I get them scanned at?

Also, some of the transparencies and actually negatives that have been individually mounted in slide enclosures. Can these be scanned somehow to produce digital files, so they are no longer negatives?

Thanks
