I know what everybody thinks is the best antivirus for a computer is but what about for a server. I have jsut built myself a Windows Home Server and looking around for the best antivirus for it. Somebody had recommended Symantec Corporate Antivirus before but that seems a little over the top in my opinion, would Nod32 work just as well on the server as it does on the local pc?

hey up,

you cant use any anitvirus product so to speak on the home server, it will corroupt your data.

The only av thats whs compatible is avast home server edition matey.

Quoted for ignorance.

Symantec would be my preferred solution but for one client it is over the top and as it's a home server it's not worth the costs.

I know AVG, Avast, Winclam and Nod32 all work well. It's a personal preference sort of thing.

EXCUSE ME!!

Quoted for ignorance wtf!!!

Im sorry to say matey but if your using windows home server as in the os, the only support anti virus product which is 100% compatible and endorsed by ms is avast home server edition.

Cheers matey and have some

I suggest you go do some reading on what WHS (Windows Home Server) is and how its disk system works ;)

I cant believe no one is reading the thread!!

Maybe im reading it wrong.

The guy is using MS WHS (Windows Home Server)

Due to the way whs works with disks ie not using fat32 or ntfs the av product you use needs to be compatible with whs, not just server.

Ahh well, i have tried.

Eat ya heart out lol. Just dont cry if your data gets corroupt.

The whole AV and data corruption myth stems from a bug in WHS where if you modify a file on the server which has an alternate NTFS data stream whilst using certain applications, you may get data corruption.

Since AV programs only read a file, not modify it, there is no issue.

Oh and I run Avast! on my 2003 Enterprise R2 server at home :)

Now i will admit there are a few comments in those threads with people saying a lot of diff. virus scanners are working without issue.

So i guess i will bow down an say take your pick. Still prefer the solution from avast as thats the only one at present that ties into the console.

As burnsey has said, they have resolved the file corrouption issues, which were due to data streams, although there are still certain instances of file corrouption occuring, i dont know the kb article off the top of my head.

All i can say is roll on the sp1 update for homeserver, all looking good :D

I remember my friend asking me this a while ago and I've just asked him and he said hes using: Kaspersky Antivirus software... he said its been great for about 9 months now.
