Hi,

I need a pair of front tyres, size 225 ZR 18.
Due to not using the car much it has been quite a few years since I have bought tyres.

Would anyone please be able to tell me if any of the Nationals are OK for a decent brand and at sensible prices?
We have a few of the Nationals around our area plus some local suppliers

We also have a Costco near to us with a tyre service but I am not sure if they are customers only or anyone can use them?

Thx
Bintos

My route was to find costs via AsdaTyres, then ask my friendly local if they can match that.
In the last 3-4 years, he’s always said yes.

I got 4 new Goodyear Efficient Grip 2's cheaper than anywhere else at Kwik Fit.

I also had just had the wishbones replaced on my Nissan Leaf elsewhere which basically made the car borderline dangerous to drive due to the tracking being out. Got Kwik Fit to do 4 wheel alignment using their hunter machine and it completely fixed the steering.

Good experience with them.

I got a full set of Michelins fitted at Kwikfit about a year ago cheaper than i could find anywhere else as they had an offer on.

I've used quite a few fitted by the bigger names like kwik fit, ATS, halfords autocentres over the years and they've all been fine, it's just a matter of looking it all up on their websites and then phoning up some of the local ones.

Here’s a few of the top of my head, always worth comparing prices against each other before you go ahead and order.

Blackcircles
Asda Tyres
Halfords
Tyres on the Drive (Owned by Halfords)
Kwik Fit
National Tyres and Autocare
ATS Euromaster

- I previously ordered from Camskill (Mail Order Only) as with a discount code it ended up substantially cheaper than buying anywhere else fully fitted.

I then went to my Local Dexel and paid £8.50 per corner for fitting and balancing.

Costco you do require a membership.

Burrows usually do buy one get one half price, but can have inflated prices to begin with or buy 3 and get 4th free.

Many options out there!

Thank you for your replies.

Looks like 30 minutes on the phone to a few of the centres nearby to get prices is the way forward.
Any recommendations for tyre makes to consider or those to avoid or are they all much the same nowadays?

A lot of these sites can sometimes be cheaper than going direct and you will find you are able to book in with your local fitter.

Michelin
Goodyear
Hankook
Pirelli
Dunlop
Bridgestone
Continental

Mid Range
Falken
Kumho
Toyo
Nexeb
Yokohama
Uniroyal

Etc….

Depends if you just want an adequate tyre or something a bit better.

Personally I'm leaning away from Bridgestone - mine and friends/family experience with them lately hasn't been inspiring with crazy cracking appearing between the tread blocks after only months to 1-2 years use which you'd normally only see at around 5-7 years and/or other perishing signs which against shouldn't normally happen until they were much older.

There's a list of tyre manufacturer sites and a couple of online tyre shops listed here. I've had Bridgestone Turanzas in the past and they were fine, I now have Sumitomos, which are also fine.

Goodyear. They are normally only just above the price of midrange (and some budgets!), but they have the quality of top end tyres with excellent grip, and normally very good wear. Proper bargains are Goodyears.

I sorted out the tyres and am getting a front pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 5 fitted tomorrow.

Purchased online via ASDA tyres and to be fitted by a local company.
The price from ASDA was the cheapest for the size I purchased and I also got a £20 shopping voucher thrown in.
All in all a decent deal for what I hope are reasonable tyres.
