Hey people, I need some help/advice/Recommendations for upgrading my computer

My computer specs ATM (nothing has been upgraded since I first got it)

Im using my computer for 3D modeling (cinema 4D) but it's come to a point now where my computer can not handle it due to my on-board graphic card and 3GB memory.

I have budget of around £100 - £175!
I was thinking about the getting the following

GPU: £49.99 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-138-MS&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat
Memory: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-118-GL&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516
PSU: Will I need to upgrade my PSU? if so can anybody recommend a good non-power hungry PSU?

Thankyou if you can help me!

wait for other replies as im not 100% sure on this. but i think you will need atleast a 400 watt PSU to be safe? card maxed out takes around 300 watts aparantly only leaving 30 for rest of system.

Nvidia's figure of 300W is for the entire system. The max. quoted power consumption for the card is 49W.

It gets all its power through the PCI-E slot so it can't pull very much.

Well what is the brand of your current PSU? By the sound of things it's probably a cheap and risky one.

According to the following specs your motherboard supports up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM

Also your CPU is not substantial for 3d modelling either

as i said wait for other replies to confirm PSU

Where did you get the idea a £50 GPU can pull 300w on its own? :p

The online PSU calculators recommend a 204 Watt PSU even with the OP's suggested upgrades included. There's no reason to believe that it wouldn't be fine with the existing PSU.

We don't know the quality of the PSU yet, if it is bad then that would make a very valid reason to upgrade, regardless of calculated wattage.

Have a look on the side of your Power supply where there's a sticker. Now look at the +12v section. How many amps on the 12v rail? If it's 22 you should be fine if not then your probably going to run into trouble.

Looking at the amps on the +12v rail is a good indicator of quality of the power supply. Poor quality power supplies will have relatively low amps.

Another point to keep in mind, power supplies loose efficiency over time, since yours is somewhat old it's safe to say it's not performing at it's peak.

Side affects of a underpowered system including loud power supply fan, struggling to switch the computer on, sudden shut downs and crashes...and of course the worst case scenario is a sudden poof and a blown power supply :P

Okay I will do that when I can since im about to go to bed!

Ive only had my PC a year and I brought it refurbished but for the last month I have noticed my psu making some strange noises and my computer for about the last 2-3 weeks, shutting it self down randomly... either way I think il just buy a new psu
