I currently own a ATI Radeon x1300 pro 256mb low profile graphics card, but I've recently began to notice that when playing games the card gets very hot and the games freeze. Could anyone recommend me any alternatives?

Specs:

AMD 64 X2 5000+ (2.6 ghz)
1GB RAM
320GB Hard drive

Your X1300 is a very poor card for gaming. Especially with anything new.

Looking at your system, there are a lot of options, it really depends on your budget. Low-end an X1950Pro would work absolute wonders. They're going for £70 now iirc. Anything up to an 8800GTS would be a worthwhile upgrade. Also, think about getting an extra 1GB of RAM and that would be a nicely rounded off system you have there.

It does seem strange however that the card itself is getting so hot that the game freezes. Perhaps you should look elsewhere for that solution, it should rather not cope with the game with showing a low FPS before it gets too hot, perhaps a reapplying the thermal paste and fan could help.

If you really do need a half height card, then I think a 8400GS is probably the fastest one (but that also sucks in modern games) But they overclock well, and with a little tinkering you can get about 5000 3dmark05's from the review I saw.

x1950 pro 7900 gs come in single slot variety and will play most games at medium to high settings

some 2400/2600 cards are small enough for you to just take the back-plate off and put them in a low profile case like that

Linkage as to which ones will fit please.

Thanks for the help guys, it's greatly appreciated.

Is this a half height/low profile 7600GT?
I would remove that link if i were you, they're classed as a competitor to OcUK and so linking to them isn't allowed on these forums :)

To answer your question, no that isn't a half height card. It just looks like a bog standard 7600gt. Check out the link one post up from yours, there's a review of a half height card in there.
