Hi there,
I've been looking into setting up a semi-fanless mid-range gaming rig with the following components:

HFX Classic Heatsink Case - Black/Silver
HFX 520 BorgFX CPU for Classic Case
Semi-Fanless PSU 400W
Quiet Drive 3.5 Internal HDD Silencer
HFX 532 Safety System for Classic/Mini Metal
Samsung 20x DVD WRITER WITH NERO
Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 500GB 7200RPM 32MB
Corsair Memory 2GBKITT 800MHz DDR2 PC2-6400
Gigabyte 8600GTS 256MB PCIE DVI Passive Cooler
MSI S775 nFORCE 650i DDR2 ATX 8CH AUDIO LAN
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz S775 (G0 stepping)

Thanks in advance.

Nice spec!

Just one comment. If it were me I'd either have a system with fans or have power supply that used a low-speed constant fan (read seasonic).

Reason being is that changes in soundlevel (such as with a fan switching on and off) are more noticable than a very low noise to begin with.

I'm sure this defeats the object of having a fanless case to begin with - but of course the other alternative is to use a powerbrick with a PSU that doesn't need to be cooled, which won't power a quad.

Only comment would be unless you plan to SLI, which given you spec I cant see you wanting to do.. you would be better with a P35 based board... being an Asus Fan Boy I would say something like a P5K-E :)

The hard drive will be the loudest part of that computer without doubt.

My watercooled setup is exceptionally quiet although definitely not silent, and I still hear both my Raptor and 7200.9 seeking over everything else. I know the Samsung Spinpoint HDD's are known for being relatively quiet - but have a look over at SPCR for a quiet HDD recommendation.

Also, I agree with Pneumonic - P35 for the win :)
