Sup,

I am looking for a general use tower for the region of £500. The uses will be an "average" computer, but I need to do 3D design work with it.

I used to know a bit about pcs and built my last desktop but have not kept up to date for 3 years at least and am a bit out of the game.

Saw this http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=11840938&postcount=3 and that looks a great build.

My questions:
Is there anything there that you would recommend something else instead for a similar price? I think the post was dated June (?) and so there may be some newer bits out there.

I have never been one for filling up hard drives, and would take speed over volume. Is that hard drive quick?

Minor question: my room gets appaling wireless connectivity on my laptop and is one of the reasons for a desktop, what is the best way to ensure a good wireless connection? My friend has some sort of card that has a moveable wired reciever I think, not really sure what the technology is.

Many thanks.

Would you be doing any gaming on it? The graphics card might be a bit better than what you need, maybe you could invest some of the money saved on a more powerful CPU... What uses if any did you have in mind design aside?

I dont have any particular plans to play games on it, but I may when I get some more free time, played lots of CoD and everyone seems to rave about CoD4 so could check that out I guess.
The thing I liked in particular is the dual dvi output on the card, I am currently using an extra 22'' with my laptop and I will miss having dual displays on the pc so that is always potential... if i get a bigger desk!

Im not sure what in particular 3D things I am doing, just got lots of design stuff on my course as far as I know, lots of solidworks for sure.

Ok, pretty close to buying this but the only thing I am on unsure on is the CPU;

Is it worth spending a lot more money to get the E8400 Wolfdale processor? Its more than double the price of the builds I have seen people doing seem pretty split between that and getting the cheaper E5200?

Many thanks guys/gals

EDIT- just been thinking;

what is the point of the CPU cooler? I dont want to overclock anything because I dont have any idea how and am just going for the safe route, so is this neccesary? The chip isnt one that is a good buy only if you overclock it?

FURTHER EDIT - will 450w be enough?

Peace

seem a great build for less than £500 mate

no need for the cpu cooler if your not overclocking and easlily save some £"s

450watts is plenty power for that build.

and if you could squeeze to a wolfdale i would go for it, cooler running and much better performance IMO
