I am shopping for a general-purpose flatbed scanner for up to around £100.

I will be scanning A4 documents and standard 6x4" photographs for archival.

I believe my options are:
  • £55 - Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 (2400dpi, USB 2.0 mini-B)
  • £75 - Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 (4800dpi, USB-C 3.0)
  • £90 - Epson Perfection V39II (4800dpi, USB 2.0)
  • £93 - Plustek OpticSlim 2610 Plus (1200dpi, USB 2.0)
I do not know much else about them.

I like that the LiDE 400 has USB-C.

Would you specifically recommend one over another?

I have an LiDE 100 and that's been amazing for the price. Performance has been flawless while scanning in over 1000 pages, plus various other documents. Miles better than my printer with integrated scanner.
CanoScan software is pretty capable and straightforward too, so on that basis I'd recommend Canon kit.

I'm guessing you want high quality stuff, so if you can stretch to it the LiDE 400 sounds good to me.

I have/had a canon lide 900f and two multifunction printers from canon. Had another canon scanner in the past too. Personally I can't fault canon kit, printers and scanners, in my experience.

I'd pick the lide 400, usb c is kind of a must have these for me and you'd be surprised how useful the upright scanning position is for storage/use.
