Hello fellow overclockers, i'm new to this site and quite a computer-addict and a reasonable experienced overclocker. I'm upgrading my CPU although i'm not certain what socket 775(Quad) to get for overclocking, I've been looking at the Q6600 but see that it's more or less only stable around the 3.6 "Area", i'm after something i could possibly push to 4ghz i've been looking at the Q9400 See here: (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-270-IN) I've seen some successful overclock threads about it reaching 4ghz however i'm curious as to see if there's another quad socket 775 cpu out there that's more overclock friendly? My mobo is the Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 and my power supply is a OCZ 750W +12VDC Any recommendations towards my upgrade (Avoiding i7 unfortunately meanwhile and the missus won't "allow" me to splash the funds about)

I have around £170 to spent on a new quad, will possibly consider more.

Thank you Setter.

I had thought about the Q9550 however i couldn't find a seller of a 2nd hand one so i thought i might try one step down, but now that's put me back in the state of mind to search harder for one. Although from the sites i look at that sell these processor's it seems vague on wether they're e0 or c1 is there a way to figure out they're e0 or c1?

Unfortunately the the obsession lies is my overclocking cappability, i'm just very into overclocking and very much enjoy it, and i wanted to push my limits a little more, the maximum i've overclocked was a E5400 to 4ghz stable, which i was highly proud of, I sadly can't afford an I7 set-up currently so would enjoy the next best thing. It's an expensive hobby but i enjoy it. :)

That's quite impressive indeed as i say the best i got was a E5400 to 4ghz stable, i tried pushing more here there and everywhere but it just wouldn't have it no matter how much i argued with it ;(

Appreciate that setter i'll have a look for those codes, however the few sites i've just checked just say most of the information regarding it's specification but not the exact model, which is frustrating to say the least.

I must admit i had a blast at a Q6600 once but it wouldn't budge past 3.5 soon as i hit it to 3.6 with it the bugger would fail on me and i couldn't worm my way around it so thought the CPU was just telling me to naff off it's done it's job that'll do.
