Recommended DDR3 RAM

Anyone got any recommendations on which DDR3 RAM to buy. Thinking of getting a 790I EVGA board and a Q6600 which I'd like to overclock past 3.0Ghz. I'm just a little unsure what is good and what isn't. Any help appreciated.

This memory would do you fine, Although it is CAS 9 you probably wouldn't be able to get your fsb up to 667Mhz anyway, So if you only got it up to say 500Mhz (9 x 500 = 4.5Ghz) you could tighten those latencies up to CAS 7 or 8.

If you shop around you can get this memory for £60

being an nforce board, your cpu fsb and memory fsb are able to be altered seperately.

this means you can clock your cpu, and leave memory at stock without worrying about timings/ dividers and mem frequency etc.

then once the cpu is maxed out, you can, if you chose, alter the memory settings.

so to answer the OP, any of the ddr3 kits will be good, go for which ever you think suits your budget/demads the best.
i've got this - clocks well and is one of the few 2x2GB kits on the market
though you made need a chepo stick ~£30 form elsewhere to enter the bios and up the mem voltage to 1.8v.

any of the OCZ kits would do you fine.

if its only 2GB your after then the kit suggested by reality|bites would be fine.

... but what's the point in running the memory faster than the FSB?

It is always best to run 1:1

Yeah, I heard about that B**s*** method of buying another ram stick just to get into the bios so I can adjust the motherboard voltage. That really sucks. I can't understand why I need to do this on a board that is already quite pricey. Starting to feel put off from buying it now. :confused:

The extra stick of RAM thing was mainly due to the Asus 650i boards.

I had to do the same when I bought my XMS2 kit and had to keep aside a stick of Samsung memory.

Not sure though if it applies to the 7xx boards.

it's not the boards fault, it's OCZ', They should have put a fail safe mode into the SPD.

Say CAS 9 with 1.6V
