Recommended external storage

I need something reliable, fast, quiet, and at least 500gb in space for use with Photo's, Video and Time Machine.

What can you guys recommend ?

Im currently planning on getting an Iomega Ultramax 1.5tb to put alongside my Macpro.

I went for the LaClie 500GB USB2 drive, bargain, looks great with the MacBook Pro
Do sort of wish I'd got the firewire800 LaClie but as I'm using it for timemachine/archive doesn't really require the extra speed

Make sure it's got no fan and it'll be as quiet as the drive inside is!

I've got a pair of Lacies and they spin down whenever they're not in use - no complaints.

Are there any opinions on the iomega drives? I've been looking at the 1TB unlramax or the 750GB minmax. At the moment i am probably leaning towards the minimax for size reasons.

Another vote for the My Book, with FW800 it was actually faster them my internal drive.

a macbook can't take advantage of these 800Mbps firewire drives can it? just 400?

and FAO -Neil-: nice car... spray the wheels ureself? and "fun is not a straight line", never a truer phrase spoken when talking about a DC2 (EDIT: infact... weren't you at JAE last year and your rear bumper got a funny mark from an acidic leaf???)

Another vote for this! Also matches the new keyboards/apple displays and MBP/MacPro's if you want a silver look to your desk.
