Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade the graphics on my PC and am not sure if I should just add another 290 or replace it with a GTX 980?

AMD A10 7850k
Corsair H60 sealed liquid cooler
MSI A88XM Gaming Motherboard
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X OC
8Gb Corsair Vengence 2400 ram running at 2133
Samsung EVO 250Gb SSD
Corsair Modular CXM 750w PSU
Node 804 Case
Windows 8.1

Thanks.

I would imagine that your CPU is holding back your GPU somewhat. A bit imbalanced.

Probably need more CPU grunt before a 2nd, or better, GPU is added.

Agree. Need to upgrade cpu before doing anything else otherwise you just won't be making the most of your current 290 nevermind two in Crossfire. If contemplating adding another 290 you almost certainly want to upgrade your psu as well. 750W would be cutting it tight in my opinion.

Also depends on your resolution. You probably don't need to spend lots of money if you're gaming at 1080p as your GPU is already quite well equipped for that.

To Be Honest even if you had a 5960x and 3000mhz memory with a 1500watt PSU i would not be thinking of upgrading a 290 till the new cards have landed from both sides.

If you are having trouble with the 290 then i am sure people can help you out on here, but otherwise you wont notice much difference in games between a 290 and a 980 unless you like Shiny new toys :)

1080p, games like the first assassins creed can start to stutter when the graphics settings are maxed out, Titan fall, however is fine so guessing it must be down to being an old game.

You're not going to see a night and day difference if you change your kit in my opinion. If you've got the itch, maybe wait for AMD's next round of cards in 2 or 3 months. There might be one that'll smash 1440p as well as 1080p, so at least it'll be able to support a future monitor upgrade a bit better.

There's nothing really going to give you good returns on your money at the moment.
