Well im currently on Virgin their 10mb M package and getting terrible speeds so looking to change..........Who do people on here recommend for a good consistent speed? Looking to spend around the same as virgin charge if possible.

It's up-to 24mbps. Without an existing ADSL service there's no way of knowing with any certainty what speeds you'll get, again it'll depend on the length and quality of your phone line.
Do you have the BT phone line you'll need to get an ADSL service? If not getting one usually incurs a £125 charge or an 18 month contract with calls agreement. And you're factoring in the £11pm BT line rental?

yes BE is excellent but the speed really does rely on distance from the BT exchange and anything over a mile you'll see it drop off quickly.
The best bit about BE is no matter what time of day etc the speed is constant
