Recommended Minecraft SMP mods?

I don't suppose anyone could recommend some SMP mods for me a couple of mates to play?

I've looked through the Miecraft forum, and there are plenty to chose from, but wondered if there were any recommended "essentials" - I'm currently enjoying "Millenaire" in SP, but thats not SMP compatible.

Basically, we just want to 'liven' the game world up a bit, in a co-operative/survival aspect. So far I've only really found "Humans+" to be looking essential. There's a nice RPG mod with classes, levelling and items, but thats PvP focussed.

Any suggestions?

It depends on your server software! We're currently running a modded vanilla server with "IndustrialCraft" added, it adds 100+ items and makes it a lot more fun! While i miss some things from Bukkit, it's refreshing not having the ability to change the game in a lame way!
