Hi all,

I've come to the conclusion (i hope) that my psu is causing my computer to constantly freeze. My spec is as follows, could anyone recommend a decent psu please, no budget.

Intel Quadcore Q9550 2.83GHz Processor
XFX 750iSLi Motherboard
6 Gig DDR2 800MHZ RAM
Seagate 300Gig SATA Hatd Drive
Nvidia Geforce GTX 280 (1 Gig DDR3) Grafix Card
Antec 900 Ultimate Gamers Case
22X DVD Rewriter
Windows 7 Home Premium (Genuine)
Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Cheers

Terry

Any one of the Corsair HX series or any of the Enermax Revolution 85+ PSUs.

A good quality PSU will last many upgrades so it is good to buy a nice one.

EDIT: Why do people insist on spending 50 quid on a PSU.. OCZ are crap PSUs end of and just don't recommend them.. As for XFX.. LMAO

something wrong with xfx like?.. if im honest, if stulid posts that its a good psu then i'd be 100% confident that he knows what hes on about. hence why hes one of the best posters on here.. Mr troll

You obviously have never had an OCZ PSU and a decent PSU to compare..

What makes you say this? my first sale in the MM was my old OCZ modstream PSU after nearly 5 years of service, its still going strong.

Lets see what Hardware secrets say about the OCZ 600w StaethXstreamII - http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/OCZ-StealthXStream-2-600-W-Power-Supply-Review/1058

The new StealthXStream 2 600 W really surprised us. It achieved up to 87% efficiency, with numbers that would easily qualify it for the 80 Plus Bronze certification, even though it carries only the standard 80 Plus. Voltages were always very close to their nominal values (3% regulation), and noise and ripple levels were very low at all times.

We could pull up to 712 W from this power supply with efficiency still above 80%. So you buy a 600 W power supply and get a 700 W.

Compared to the original StealthXStream 600 W, the new model uses stronger +12 V rectifiers and switching transistors, two active PFC transistors instead of three, and one of the video card power connectors was upgraded to a six/eight-pin model.

On the down side, we think it could have more SATA connectors.

Costing only USD 80 (or USD 60 after a mail-in rebate), it is a very good option for the user looking for a good entry-level power supply.
TROLL MUCH?

XFX rebrand decent PSUs (mainly seasonic) however as a company they leave a LOT to be desired (warranty and such). For that reason I would rather take Corsair.

Post count doesnt indicate IQ or experience no offence and I'm not trolling.

My only ever OCZ PSU was a Stealthxtreme (infact the very same model as you linked in that "review") and after a week of instability and random freezes in COD, It turned out to be this PSU.. Will never buy a budget level PSU again. You must have been lucky but I also had a similar experience with Hiper..

Zero experience or IQ from you either, you should know that Corsair re brand Seasonic PSU's too, as do a lot of PSU manufacturers.

Thanks all for the replies. This thread here explains why I think the problem is the psu and my current psu:

Really don't know what else the problem is but the computer is currently unusable due to constant freezing.

OP it sounds like you have the same problem that I experienced with the OCZ PSU reviewed above.. Do yourself a favour and buy a high end PSU now then never have to worry about upgrading it..

Nice to see you skip over my comment relating to the fact that whilst XFX do rebrand some nice PSUs their service leaves some to be desired.

Pays to read doesnt it.

you base your thoughts on a single psu you had a problem with once?. oh dear.

so you think that every psu OCZ has ever made have broke after a week of use. people spend £100's on top brand psus only for them to break after a few days or arrive dead.. this includes corsair psu's..there have been plenty of threads of people being gutted because there 1200w corsair tank has broken after a month..its not down to the company, its just bad luck if one breaks

I don't think you can dispute that:
1) OCZ are a "value/budget" brand and
2) Corsair / Enermax / PCP&C are in a different league in terms of quality and customer service.

What experience have you had with XFX service?

Personally a couple of 9 series graphics cards along with people generally ranting on forums about them.
