I currently have an:

Asus GeForce GTX 260 896MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card

But am looking for something new to play Dirt 3 on, and BF3 when it comes along, BFBC2 til it does.

I am looking to spend £200 or so, the rest of my PC is newly upgraded to an i5/Gigabyte bundle with a nice shiny corsair 750 TX PSU.

I don't really know much about SLI and stuff, but if that's worthwhile in my case I'm game :)

Many thanks!

£200 budget your probably gonna be looking at a 6950 to unlock to a 6970 or a second hand 6970 (flashed or unflashed, who knows) for best bang for buck.

For that budget I'd probably avoid the 570 as its not really any faster than the 480 cards and has less vram on it anyway. 480gtx cards are nice contenders if your well ventilated and you could enjoy all that dx11 goodness in the titles you mentioned.

Is it possible/feasible to buy a card now, and another card of the same type next month/later to do that SLI thing, or is it better to save the money to the next month and buy a single card at twice the price?

i just upgraded to a gtx560ti from a palit sonic gtx 260.to be honest i wish id not bothered,as the 560ti is only slightly faster than my old gtx260.

I went from a 260 to a 460, and didn't notice a massive change. After my RMA of the 460, I went to a 570; and the difference is night and day in newer games when using high AA.

+1 - Great card and with current drivers it gets better and better

What about a 480, seems to be in my price range on this week only. Anandtech shows a decent jump from 260 to 480, and also a jump from 460/560 to 480 (unless im confused!).

Sorry I didn't reply to your earlier post about SLI but in all honesty, unless your gaming at extremely high resolutions I wouldnt bother. The 480GTX cards are really good value at that price range, but my advice would be get one with a GOOD custom cooler if you are going down that route. Reference design 480s are very hot and very loud so the good custom cooler is essential for a happy experience with one. Some people are having problems with the gigabyte SOC ones (which are heavily overclocked) but you'd be covered by the RMA if you get a duff one anyway so worth a punt.

A 480 would destroy your current 260 card and give you more vram and dx11 options, which are essential for the latest games. Edit, just saw you have a new 750w corsair PSU which would be fine with a 480gtx
