Hey All,

Just a quick question to help me decide on what direction to take things. I currently have an i7 930/x58/6gb with a gtx 470.... now I have a bit of an upgrade itch at the moment so wondering if to either go to i7-2600k/z68(gen3)/8gb or just swap out the gtx 470 and get an overclocked gtx 580 + an SSD for the same money.

So with ivybridge on the horizon ... what would you do ? :D

You will need a good 850w PSU for this, the old Fermi architecture designs were hot and power hungry.

SLI or SSD really. I don't think there's much point upgrading from your i7 to sandybridge.

Thing is the addition of an SSD drive is what made me think about going to a SB platform with a native SATA3 controller as opposed to having to get a PCI-E 1x SATA3 controller card.

I really wasn't looking at having SLI though as i'd rather get the best performance from a single card without having to worry about games working with SLI etc.

Going to sandybridge isnt enough of a jump, try overclocking your 930 by adding a £30 heatsink.

It's already overclocked to 4ghz. I guess i'll just get a SATA3 card & crucial m4 ssd and then see if performance is nicer.

I wouldn't bother upgrading to Sandy Bridge as ivybridge will be released soon and your best bets will be going with that in the future.
