As title, I'm interested in getting a VPN. Does anyone have any recommendations? I only really need one for two or three months.

Ta!

I use Vyper VPN. If it's for access back to the UK, I heard there is a service you can use where you use DNS servers and not a VPN, which you can do without causing any slowing on your network.

Unblock Us is what one is called.

As far as I understand it, that's not really a true VPN though, it just forwards requests for Netflix etc to the Unblock-US servers in the states which hide your source address behind their own. All your normal web traffic etc will still work as usual.

OP needs to clarify what it's needed for.

I VPN to my home router which works quite well (asus rt-n66u) - is that an option for you? You can use OpenVPN which is quite configurable.

FWIW - a lot of hotels in China have 2 connections, one for Westerners and one for locals, the one for westerners generally has full access.

However, I can tell you that my VPN running on my router at home, runs on port 443, and has generally worked in most of the places I've travelled to. :)

Thanks for the advice guys, I've gone with Vyprvpn. Price was OK, 15 dollars a month but they review well, allow two devices, and have apps for Android devices. I'll be using my tablet and mobile rather than a computer so that swayed it for me. I'll report back on the effectiveness when I get to China on Wednesday.

Freefaller, I moved out of my flat tire travel se Asia so no router available. Good suggestion though.

I've been using Cyber Ghost Vpn and so far it's been great. It's very cheap I think I paid £25 for 1 year. Great number of countries and servers. Torrent downloads etc are fine too.

Is this easy to do (I've got the same router)? I'd let to set it up on my nexus 5 phone. Never used a VPN before so all new to me :)

Very easy.

I use the OpenVPN client as that has more options and is more secure than just the PPTP default it has. I also have the OpenVPN software on my Nexus 5 and tablet PCs as well as laptops. I can dial in over 4G and/or abroad and it's never skipped a beat. I've signed up to a dynamic DNS service so that my IP address stays up to date - and I can use an easy to remember hostname too.

The advantage of the OpenVPN software is that you can create a configuration file (which I then store in the cloud or on my phone), and that has all the configuration details you need. It doesn't have the username or passwords though of course.

I was struggling with getting data working on some secured networks, but patching through to port 443 has worked every time as it's used for HTTPS. You can change all the settings to suite your needs, TAP/TUN, subnets, encryption.

Sounds complex, but just make sure you have the latest firmware, and then go to the VPN section and select OpenVPN - go to the advanced tab to set the requirements you need. Export the config file, import it into your client (on your phone) and off you go!
