Hi,
Currently use a Canon 20D and with my new iMAC G5 addition I'm after some OSX software that will help me to process the RAW files. I currently use BreezeBrowser on the PC am I better sticking with the PC or will the G5 be a better platform? I have heard of Apeture is this what I should be looking for? Totally new to OSX and know nothing :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aperture got slated on its release for being a let down in the output area. However by now Apple should have released Aperture 1.1 which will of fixed many problems that were identified on the first release of 1.0. I would recomend this program if your G5 is quite high spec. Otherwise I might be tempted to scan for others.

Will a 2.1 G5 with 1.5 Gigs of ram be enough?

Yup it will. As long as its a G5 it should be plenty enough for now anyway. You only really need the big guns when you have a lot of RAW files all higgigdy piggildy all over the show. Key to any fast work flow is a neatly and well organised file system (that means binning the rubbish!)

Highly recomdn giving Lightroom by Adobe/Macromedia Labs a try.

granted it's only beta, but it runs very fast on my 1.5Ghz intel Mac Mini, so I imagine on a 2.1Ghz G5 it should be faster still.

Install the Aperture 1.1 update. It runs better. I'm currently working on a round up of the top RAW editors including Aperture, Lightroom, Bibble, Rawshooter and Photoshop.

Personally, i'd say stick with adobe camera raw, which is inbuilt to photoshop cs2. Makes the work flow so quick, and the quality is still outstanding.

Well Im using both a PC and a Mac but its the PC that I am more comfortable using at the mo. In the future I want the Powermac Intel. I have used the dual G5 powermacs for a year during my last year of my HND and they were silent unless needing to spin the fans upto maximum.

I feel more comfortable using Apple Pro software - seems more polished than the Adobe equivalents (comparing Premiere Pro to Final Cut Pro, and After Effects to Motion). I've just built a PC tower because the Apple towers are still on G5s, but in a couple of years hopefully the Apple range will be sufficient to allow me to upgrade to an Intel tower.
