Is it possible to record from my Sky Plus box to DVD and watch them on m y DVD player, I thought I read/heard somewhere that it is possible, thanks.

It's certainly possible, depends on what equipment you've got.
Sky+ to standalone DVD recorder is dead simple, just connect the two machines with a scart cable, select the correct input on the DVD recorder, and press record,
Recording to a PC DVD drive is a bit more complicated, you need some kind of capture device.
You also need to make sure that your DVD player can read the type of blank DVDs you're using.

I've got this running through my panny dvd recorder.
Connect your scart from the video out on your sky+ to the input on your dvd rec.
You can use the copy function on the sky+ box in your planner and it will give you 30secs grace before it starts.
Pretty good.
