Iam using audacity to record some mixes round a mates works fine on my laptop but on his the bass is very heavy and it sounds awful.

Any ideas?

Too much bass being applied at the mixer? Speakers could be compensating for it in some way but audacity isnt?

turn down the recording volume ?

if it is clipping it cause you are recording it too loud, you should leave at least 6db of headroom when recording so that it does not clip.

So go to recording volume options and set the volume of the mic to below middle.

Otherwise it could be a cheap mic that does not pick up the low frequencies properly

if you are using a laptop to record I can only presume you are recording it in mono and thru the mic port. Nasty !

Buy a cheap usb soundcard and plug em in that way, then either stick with audactiy or get soundforge ;)

Yeah just recording off the mic...sound quality off my laptop was pretty good actually burnt it to cd and that too sounded good.

Can you recommend a certain soundcard?
