So go to recording volume options and set the volume of the mic to below middle. Otherwise it could be a cheap mic that does not pick up the low frequencies properly

Nasty ! Buy a cheap usb soundcard and plug em in that way, then either stick with audactiy or get soundforge

Yeah just recording off the mic...sound quality off my laptop was pretty good actually burnt it to cd and that too sounded good. Can you recommend a certain soundcard?
