so i want to record some game music from a ps3 game. i have the ps3 sound running through optical. the wire goes from ps3>input spdif on pc>another opty cable going from out spdif on pc> creative inspire 5.1 digital thing.

i can hear the ps3 music through my pc speakers, it also registers in vista sound properties, i can see the bar going up and down with the music. thing is when i record and play back all i get is hissing. wwhen you are in the xmb and you put the cursor on a game but not start it and leave it, thr screen fills up with the game title and picture and you get some music. now when i record that its fine. when ingame its just hissing.

am i doing something wrong?

here is the digital inspire thing

Perhaps, and this is just a guess, when you're in-game the optical out is outputting 5.1 sound, which maybe for some reason the sound recording software cannot or has not been set to record. That might explain why it only records when you're looking at it through the XMB, because maybe that's just normal 2 channel sound.

right well i notice that the dts light comes on the inspire when i get in game, in xmb its not on. so do i need a sound recorder program to accept dts or something?

dude you kick arse, i set my ps3 to 2 channel optical, dts light does not come on anymore and i can record fine.

also looks like i only needed one optical cable. ps3 to inspire

thanks
