In my line of work, there's a lot of websites and pages of information I need to keep handy, as I travel a lot. For a while, I've relied on the good ol' pen-and-paper but it really isn't that great a system, with accidental tears, smudges, losing sheets and general disorganisation everywhere.

What I thought would be a good system would be something like this:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=103582

This is basically perfect - organised categories with links that go to the appropriate section for links to the sites applicable under that category, as well as space for a description and so on.

I did think of adding a page of my website dedicated to this, with the address known to me only so nobody else would be able to see it, but the cons are that people can find it out and it can be a little tiresome to update with new links. However, so far, it's probably the best idea I can think of, as it can be accessed anywhere in the world.

Is there any other possible way of maintaining a similar link system and keep it private but accessible by me anywhere in the world?

well, my system is, bookmark anything interesting and every now and then just export my favourites to a html file, which i then copy onto my mp3 player / usb memory stick.

works for me...

I would have recommended the excellent del.icio.us for bookmark storage, but it doesn't have any privacy options (understandably so, it would go against the whole concept), so instead get yourself an account over at ma.gnolia where you can save your bookmarks with privacy options.

For blog feed subscriptions and saving links to useful posts and articles, I recommend BlogLines.

I should mention there are (official) Firefox extensions available that make interacting with these services really easy, and are definitely worth installing.
