Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to post, but im after some software for recording video from my webcam onto my laptop.

Our 4 month old is somehow turning around in her cot and moving the toys with her and putting them all over the place (lol). And we would like to try and catch this on video.

So probably an Avi or something for the file? And also what software could i use to then cut tha parts we dont want and just keeping her in action (providing we can catch her doing it again)

Looking forward to a reply, and ill let you know if we catch the little bugger doing her ninja spins :p

Why not just use Windows Movie Maker. That will do everything you want and it comes with windows so you dont need to buy any new software.

;)

When you do Maybe you can upload it to YouTube so we can see how she does it

:D

Will do :D

You'd be better off just buying a camcorder...

I have a camcorder, but it does not record for 12 hours :p and what benefit would this give from recording from a webcam i already have right onto my PC? Sorry if this is a stupid question but i really do not get what you mean

I know what he means when he says a video camera would be better as this would give you better Quality. But as you say a webcam will just keep recording for a long time. You can even get software for a webcam that has motion detector in it. So it will only start recording when the baby starts to move.

A camcorder is significantly better quality, is portable and will record for 12 hours easily if it's a hdd one, they can also have night vision (is your daughter even able to sleep with the light on?) and motion detectors which may come in useful. Most parents want to record their children doing stuff at some point in time like holidays and birthdays, hence the camcorder suggestion.

Hi again... Well i left for work at 5am and had a quick peek in the cot before i left, but she was still in the exact spot i left her :( dammit. Waiting for the better half to wake up now to see if she has moved while ive been at work. But im guessing this is going to take a while.

Also to Energize. Yes your right it would be a lot better quality, and maybe something for in the future, but at the moment we are just curiouse as to how she manages to do a full 180, shuffle down her cot, get her toys around her cot, and shuffle to the end of it (about 3 times in 2 weeks shes done this) so as yet i dont realy have a reason for a better camcorder, altho this maybe tempting in the future (At the moment we only use it for short clips to upload to facebook)

And yes she does sleep with the light on, she is just over 4 months old and wont sleep withought the light on, its abit annoying but getting use to it now.

Last point while i remember. The webcam im using is a no brand, its plain black with "web cam" on the front, and XP could not find the drivers for me, so i ended up having to use my linux laptop last night to record, is there a way of getting the webcam working under XP? It's not exactly a big deal, but would make things abit easyer

Maybe you could post a picture of the webcam. Someone might recognize it and tell you what drivers you need for xp
