Hi,

Having trouble with my p5n-e, flashed the BIOS to 4-1 but half way through it just turned itself off.

It's supposed to have a crash free bios but its lights on and nobody home. Fans spin, HDD light on constantly even though HDD disconnected.

Things I've tried.

Power off, battery out and CMOS reset. result: no change

Recovery from a floppy with autoexec file etc. result: doesn't even try and read the floppy

Supposed crash free recovery from CD. result: tried using ATA 1 and ATA 2 both as masters. no change. no text on screen.

PCI card, yes an old 4mb virage - still no display

Had this with both MSI and Gigabyte before and always managed to salvage the situation. This has me beat so far. Any suggestions?

Iif it's a new mobo (this one's less than 24 hours old !) then no way I'm having another Asus if this is the BIOS recovery. Is it the same system on the Fata1ty? otherwise might have to be a 650 MSI or a least a board with a socketed flash.

Any suggestions welcome.

whoops..

If your pc shut itself half way through a flash it will be very likely that your board is dead. I'm not sure if the BIOS chip is soldered in or not on this board. If its not and you have a mate with a P5N-e doing a "hot flash" (take his chip boot to a floppy, take out his chip and put in yours and then flash it) could possibly fix your chip.

If its soldered on you will probably have to RMA the board.

A bit of a bump....

unfortunately it's a soldered chip so looks like the board is going back.

Unpluged overnight with battery removed and CMOS CLR jumper on still no change.

Still, I've order a 650i fata1ty seeing as it's a socketed BIOS and it looks to be a better board - heatsinks on the southbridge and more power connectors.
Just hope it clocks well.

Should be here tomorrow so it's a stripout tonight.

Any ideas for jumpstarting the P5N most welcome.
