Recover deleted photos from memory card

I have a digital camera I need to recover deleted photos from. I have tried recuva and recover my files but neither of them recognise that I have a camera connected to the computer through USB [they don't see it as a drive]. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need different software?

can you take the memory card out the camera and plug it directly into the computer?

No. I have just read after a google search that if it's plugged into a memory card reader it will see it as a logical drive, but I don't don't have one. Any way round this?

You can pick up a cheap one for under a fiver if you look around.

Probably your best bet.

No way around that, I'm afraid. I had the same problem with I was trying to recover files I'd deleted from my 350D. A large catalogue store sells a cheapo card reader that you should be able to track down pretty easily.

I've had luck with an app called PC Inspector smart recovery (free) with CF cards in my D200.

Yeah, that's the app that I use. Works nicely, but it still doesn't recognise my 350D.

I used the software that comes with Extreme 3 cards and managed to recover 100 photos from a friends camera after she hit format by mistake...!
