To cut a long story short I neglected to make any email backups this year so sods law kicked in and my computer died.

I have built a new computer with a fresh install of install of windows on a new hard drive and was wondering if there is a way of recovering the old emails from the old computer's hard drive and importing/copying them onto the new drive?

I have searched the documents and settings folders and the outlook[express] folders but haven't found any files that look like they may contain the old emails, have I lost them all?

Any help would be appreciated and yes, from now on I will now use an automatic backup scheduler to make regular backups and not just try to remember every few weeks.

You emails will be stored somewhere like;

C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserAccount\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{Random string of letters and numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

First of all open and close outlook express.
Then copy the above folder/files to the same location on your new hard drive.

Open up outlook express again and your emails and accounts should be there :)

Just do a file serach for *.dbx for Outlook Express nad *.pst for Microsoft Outlook. The all you need to do is import them across to the E-mail client you are going to use.
