Recovering data from a formatted drive.

My friend just called to ask me about lost data, he formatted his laptop and forgot to take a backup of some important data, he has since reinstalled windows xp.

Is there any recovery programs that you guys know of that can get this data back? Or is it gone gone now he has reinstalled?

thanks for all the info guys, i have passed this on to him,

so i take it he needs to slave the drive? as it's a laptop or can he just install 'getdataback' on the primary drive he wishes to recover data from?
