Recovering data from formatted HDD?

Just had a call from a friend who's formatted one of his data drives..

Is there anyway of recovering the data without sending it to a specialist?

Try Test Disk

If it's a quick format then it should be pretty easy.

there is a piece of software that can recover data on formatted disk etc. The application is called Restoration Recovery, Which is free. Run it from a USB key and search on the disk that been formatted and voila you will see lost data. If you need the software send my a pm by trust.

I accidentally formatted my terrabyte external drive, which almost gave me a heart-attack :eek:

I used Recuva to retrieve the files from the hard drive, then just copied them back once I had retrieved all the files I needed. The whole process did take a while (about 2 days), but it was definitely worth getting the data back.

GetDataBack is a great piece of software, saved my bacon more than once.

Thanks for all the options guys. I've forwarded them onto my friend who will no doubt phone to ask me to install/run them for him!
