Recovering exchange from a tape backup?

A client has an exchange backup from a dead server they wish to restore.

It's an NTBackup job on a DAT72 tape.

I tried to recreate the old server but the restore didn't work so I've been asked to find a company who can retrieve the data.

Any ideas on a place that can do this?

Looks like the tape is fine but I can't get the store data off it.

The store didn't mount on the 'clone' server I built.

sounds like a fixable situation, maybe post more details...

maybe post more details... what version of windows, exchange where do you get the error, whats the error...

you restored the store and then it would not start? what were teh errors...

sounds like at worst you need an exchange expert NOT a data recovery company...

I attempted this a few weeks ago so can't remember the exact errors. However this is what I did and what resulted.

Created a new SBS 2003 server using a spare PC.

Mirrored the computer name and domain name from the existing server.

Restored the exchange store to the server.

This left me with the store on the server but it wouldn't mount. Can't remeber the exact error message but it pointed to either the store being corrupt or possible how I'd configured the server. I assumed it was corrupted as I've restored exchange this way before.

Besides the hardware being different, which I'm told shouldn't be a problem the only difference was the service pack of SBS 2003.

a long shot, but do oyu have a flat file backup of the store? a few times I have had issues getting the agent type backups to restore and used the file backup to get it back up again...

No I've not got a flat file backup :(

hardware does not matter...

the service back could be your issue...

I'll rebuild another server and patch it up the same. Won't get time until next week though but will update when I have more info.
