Ive been given a MAC Book Pro to look at, the person wants it wiping clean and everything reinstalled.

Now I only have a windows PC . So , so far I have done.

1. Removed HDD.
2. Installed MACDrive 8 on windows PC.
3. Preformed a full backup of files using Acronis.

Now before i go ahead with the format and reinstall were do i need to browse on my image to make sure I have all their Docs,Itunes and Photos. I can find a 19GB sparseimage file does this hold it all and how can I view it

Cheers in advance

Everything you are talking about should be under /User/<name> with the various sub-directories. Though it depends if he's been using iPhoto as then they are not obvious, they are tucked away in a 'library' file.

Whats the issue thats prompting the reinstall, you may not even need to. App zapper + onyx should makes things like new, unless they have done something incredibly stupid.

well to be honest they never really said all i got was that ''its not working" have had a look around it , safari wont open but most programmes do. It wont update (although i guess it might be due to safari not working) .I downloaded Onyx installled it into the applications folder but that does not want to run either when i click on it.........

Any advice??

Cheers

try repair permissions

its in disk ultility (use spotlight easiest way to find it) it may fix all your app problems :)

...or click the little blue spyglass in the top right on the menubar if you hate shortcuts :)

Just do an "archive and install" - it will propagate all user data - and make the operating system like new.

Thanks for everyones replys

Ive tried everyones advice including the "archive and install" but still no joy getting programmes to work. Really enjoying the MAC experiance , just wish I new my way around it !

Any other advice?

Cheers

Do you have the original grey OS X install DVDs?

Boot from that (hold C on boot) and do a full reformat.

Really really surprised the issue persists after an archive and install.

Enable a new user if you can, and then boot into that user and attempt to repeat the issue.
