Recovering lost data ?

Hello !!

Does anybody know of any free programmes that will help to retrieve lost data ?
I think my Niece's PC has a virus and her Uni Essay has gone ..... somewhere !!!
She's a tad distraught

Dont no of any, but you may also consider a free trial of software that can do that.
