Hello chaps,

Ordered the following from OCUK and im having some issues -

Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) -

Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

Palit GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel

XFX 650W XXX Edition Modular Power Supply £59.57 1 £59.57

Now i installed everything as should be and when i come to boot i got a message "recovering lost dram size", and then it rebooted several times. finally i managed to boot into windows and update the bios to F2. Now this installed correctly and rebooted, but all of a sudden the speaker kept beeping short beeps constantly. now i removed the ram and tested one by one and all seem fine, but when i put the ram into Dimm socket DDR3_1 i get the beeping constantly and wont post, if i leave this dimm free and use DDR3_3 & DDR3_5 all works fine and i have 4gb of RAM.

Im completely at a loss now as to what to do, i even went back to F1 and tried again, and got the same messgae with that bios "recovering lost dram size".

Ive scoured the net and not found anything of any use, ive re seated the cpu and cooler to no avail.

At a bit of a loss now really!

Download mem-test, this runs at boot, it may be the case you have a faulty memory module.

Hmm, that's a pain :(

I afraid I'm going to ask this, the memory slots which are being used is the second, fourth & sixth slots from the cpu.

When I built my system I put the ram in the incorrect slots.

Yeah, deffo the second, fourth & sixth! I bought everything from here so i feel im going to have to RMA but im not sure if motherboard or the ram.

One thing possibly to try, boot with setup which works, go into the BIOS and setup the DRAM voltage to 1.64v, save and re-boot, then shut down and install the last memory module and see how you get on.

I would be inclined to RMA the ram, cpu & motherboard, as the memory controller is on the cpu this will rule out this, I had problems with my i7 build last year which turned out to be 2 lots of faulty memory.

Ok i'll give that a try and then if doesnt work will RMA the lot, aint it a pain when you buy new stuff lol!

Cheers for the help RJC, much appreciated.

Ok! I can get to boot now with F1 bios and DRAM voltage set to 1.64, but i still get the message "Reciovering lost DRAM size" 3 times then boots, and in windows it shows 6gb but only 4gb useable on W7x64.

I had this Problem to but found out thatit was just 1 of my ram sticks was broken. RMA'd the ram sticks and got new 1s and all is workign fine. Found out on google to that a few had this problem with a few things. 2nd option was to Resit the CPU as it maybe out of place.

I know you resolved this issue but made this note for anyone who may have future problems.

Nope its not resolved, It does boot but doesnt recognise 6gb with F1 bios and wont boot at all with F2 bios, have RMA'd the CPU, Motherboard and Memory.

Tried reseating CPU a couple of times, couldnt find any bent pins or anything.

Hi,

Wouldn't be something as silly as incorrect memory voltage would it? I know a core2 is a long way off your setup, but without the 2.2v the geil wanted it wouldn't do very much!

I tried chaning voltage and didnt make a bit of difference Tommy, loaded up the XMP profile at 1.65v as its meant to be and still had same issues.
