Recovering lost DRAM

When I boot my PC I get a message come up half way through loading saying "recovering lost DRAM" and then my PC restarts itself. it does this 3 or 4 times before it actually boots normally, do you think this could be a problem with my memory? I have read in a couple of places that it could be something to do with overclocking/voltages but I have checked and my voltages all seem to be OK.

I am running one of the OCUK overclocked bundles so it is running on more than stock but its not exactly high and my PC is well cooled.

Just lately I have also run into some issues when running software (mainly games) where its crashing out due to insufficient memory, I'm not exactly driving the PC hard considering its spec but wondered if anyone could shed any light on this?

Any help would be much appreciated!

thanks :)

I bought the Krypton Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle in June 2010. 6GB DDR3 RAM (Tri channel) I forget manufacturer (cant see it written anywhere) I'm sure its either Kingston or Corsair

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard
Running Windows 7 64 bit

Your running latest BIOS? Don't update it just yet as you'll lose your oc settings,

Look in the bios and see what the qpi/vtt and dram voltages are

I think I may already be running the latest BIOS, I bought an SSD about 8 months ago, reinstalled Windows and all the MOBO/hardware drivers at the time. It may well be that my PC is not actually running the OC settings anyway.... in fact I'm pretty sure its not, but I don't really know what I'm doing well enough in BIOS to risk damaging hardware by changing settings, and similarly I don't know how to check because if I look on DXdiag or PC properties it has never shown the true clock speeds.

the QPI/VTT voltage is 1.175 and the DRAM is 1.500 (in advanced voltage settings) although on the previous screen it shows as 1.648.

I forget now what the cause is,its been a while since I had my x58 ud5 but it was a common issue

it could be ram fault or a cold boot/bios bug,try with qpi/vtt at 1.32v and dram v at 1.66v

also try with system performance enhance set to standard, then see if its any better

those voltages shouldn't affect anything

can clear the cmos it will reset the bios/oc settings though, leave out cmos/mb battery for 5 minutes

Just did that, have done that before, that's probably why the OC settings aren't working.

The DRAM issue still remains...

Yeah it's saying that the PC has suffered from boot failures due to voltage changes/over locking so I'm guessing for whatever reason those changes are stopping it booting.

I don't now if this has any baring... But on memtest86 it only seems to test 4gb.. Bt I have 6gb of RAM. As it says "recovering lost DRAM size" on boot up, could it be that one of the stocks isn't being recognised properly?

ahh ok,in the bios in the system info page look to see how much ram it says is installed

if less than 6gb then you have an issue

have you removed the cpu at all? things that cause missing memory are an overtightened cpu cooler, bent cpu socket pins or not enough qpi/vtt voltage for the integrated memory controller

Yes BIOS is only showing total RAM size as 6GB. Haven't taken the CPU out since original installation, nor have I taken the heat ink off it (although it is a huge heat sink so its not impossible for it to be interfering somehow).

Is there anything I can do?

what's it say in windows system properties? 6gb or 6gb(4gb usable)?

if just 6gb then its working correctly
