recovering outlook express messages

right, through my infinite genious i managed to format my windows install while trying to get ubuntu to install...remember kids dont drive if your tired AND NEVER FORMAT!!!!

well after a quick look on the forums i used 'getdataback', but to actually get the data its wants me to buy the $79 version...not going to heppen

so firstly...any free pieces of software out there to recover files from ntfs partition

and secondly...where are the messages and folders for outlook express. i cant find them anywhere

the data folder is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{DF682AA5-9D2A-40F0-B920-9BFECDCBF18C}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

havent got any suggestions for data recovery that are free though :(
 
crap. no ms folder, no outlook folder, no files :(

i guess the files are gone, dont suppose anyone knows what the files would be called and the file extention. so that i can search for them
 
The files you will be looking for is .dbx files. It will have files like:

Inbox.dbx
Sent Items.dbx
etc

If you can find them its v easy to import them.
 
Don't work from the partition/Drive You are trying to recover or unformat, The data should still be there unless You did a security wipe or have installed over it.
Get the drive out of the Case and hooked up to something like a usb removable caddy
