Recovery CD's

Just got a Toshiba L300.
Though the hard drive has been split into 2 drives and i need to get it back into just the one. If i go through the recovery cd will it be ok to format it all delete the partition and still use the recovery cd. Or does formatting remove any hidden files that the recovery cd would need?
Can't find any of my windows cd's so cant just do a normal fresh install.

I think if you take all the partions out and reinstall using the recovery disc it will put back a windows partion and the HD based recovery partition.

I bought the laptop used so i had assumed the partition had been created by the previous owner.
Do companies sell hard drives with partitions now then?

how big is the partition, usually a small partition of 10gb or less would indicate that it has hard drive based recovery. This has been the norm on many laptops now for a while.

IIRC when using the toshiba recovery dvd you can go to advanced options and specify the partition size
