I remember when Packard Bell started using them in the late 90s. Frigging annoying PITA they were!
As long as it's only a new HDD (using the PB yardstick) it should be fine. It was swapping the motherboard plus HDD under warranty that caused lots of problems with the PBs.
HPs are normally more picky about the Motherboard when it comes to tattoos; shouldn't be a problem just swapping the HDD - though you never know with those bloody things.
