Red Alert 2 - Too fast?

Hey guys.

Decided to install RA2 for nostalgic purposes but I've got a slight problem, sometimes, just before those video transmissions and at other random times, the game will freeze for 2-3 seconds and then my DVD-RW drive will start to spin-up and read and then the gameplay will continue.

It's only a slight problem but quite annoying.. don't really understand why it happens because it runs fine on my old PC.

It's almost as if the the DVD-RW is struggling to keep up with the gameplay or something?

when i had it installed with my 6800gt it would freeze quite a lot, then with my 1900xtx it would freeze every so often when dvd drive span up, i then installed yuri's revenge and had no problems

Installing Yuri's Revenge stopped the problem in RA2 or you had no problems in Yuri's Revenge.

Long shot but perhaps installing the RA2 might help.. I'll give it ago later.

I've got Yuri's Revenge too so I'll install that. Both cracking games, offline and on.

Westwood Online rankings went down ages ago but you can still play it and there are always plenty folk on for games.

You can also download a tool called XWIS (I think) which puts you on a server with aload of other people and the games are ranked on the XWIS website.

Maybe one of those drive speed control programs might work. Nero Speeddisc or something similar IIRC.

You dont even need to do that anymore, just install the game, and the XWIS server is now the new default. So it works just like WOL used to, only better
