After playing the demo of C&C 3 and loving it, I went to install my old copy of RA2, its been ages since i've done this.

When the disk starts up (soviet one), it comes up with the install wizard and I click "Install" on the menu, but the install wizard just crashes before the next bit starts up, its just the standard "We have encountered a problem, and need to be shut down" error.

My guess is that my hardware/XP is too new for the game to run so does anyone here play it, and how do you get it to install on an XP system.

Ive tried both disks, yes. And I think im on an Administrator account, ive never had a problem installing, downloading or changing anything before.

Not realy much help but the copy of RA2 that comes with the C&C the last decade set runs fine under xp, so it's deffo possible to get it running.
One thing though, after playing the C&C 3 demo, going back to any of the earlier games is realy gonna hurt your eyes.
Im currently playing through Tiberian Sun, the graphics are horendous but the gameplay is awesome, which is what C&C was always about

ive got RA2 (original) working fine on my XP PC.

Anyone any links to info on getting multiplayer games setup over the net?

any of you play ra2 online?

i used to play quite a lot online a few years ago..used to play on the XCL ladder http://xwis.net/xcl/ when Westwood online started to go downhill...XCL became the official ladder couple years ago....

I expect I will if I can get it working again.

I always found RA2 too easy online, but then I only ever played 1v1 public matches.

if you play QM (quickmatch) for rankings, then theres bound to be some noobs around, but its definately not easy if you play someone who knows what they are doing, IE. Build order depending on the map, your team, your opponents team, scouting, anti-scouting etc etc :)

Ive got it working now, thanks guys, I tried compatability mode :)

Its still a great game, im gonna try and complete the campaign, but after playing C&C 3 it only really lives in its shadow.

Ive been playing it all day and all last night. One of the best games ever made IMHO. I just love destroying 7 Brutals!

I played a total of about 80-90 games online. The general public were crap at it. It's been a good few years since I've played it though but the average skill level on starcraft was silly high in comparison and after around 300 games I could get a 1:1 ratio on average against random public players.

i bought ra2 for £0.99 the other day and it works fine on xp pro. graphics are well out of date though.
Look fine at 1680*1050 for me.

I much prefer the Yuri's Revenge expansion.

IMO, RA2 : YR, is the greatest RTS game ever made.

C&C 3 is fantastic, but I personally would have preferred it to be set in the Red Alert universe...

3d Yuri ;) LOL
