Red Alert 3 - my dads view

Isnt CoH and RA3 2 totally different games though? Its like saying Crysis is much better than Counterstrike.

I am getting this for xmas so gonna reserve my judgement till then, however after reading a load of reviews it really is like marmite.

I hated Crysis so lets hope I will like this :)

Company of Heroes was outstanding. Are they making company of heroes 2?

there's a new one out after christmas 'tales of valor'

and there's a huge patch coming out after christmas, they're in the final stages of beta testing (since march!)

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The original C&C was by far the best in the series.

Red Alert (the first one) was ok, but the minute EA got their grubby little hands on it any future incarnations were doomed. They just have an uncanny ability of turning gold in to rust.

C&C + expansion
Red Alert + expansions
Red Alert 2 + expansion

They were awesome, the other C&C games were all diabolical

I really don't get the idea of giving such obvious hints.

What is the difference between giving someone enough clues to figure something out (easily too) and just telling them the name?

It is like if I said to you it is like those crisps, kind of like sounds like you are walking. What is the difference between that and saying "walkers"

I am not having a go, but hinting at a competitor is just as against the rules as out right saying the name :)

Loop holes my friend, loop holes. :)

RA3 is awesome online, but the single player is rubbish. Why would you play "strategy" games against predictable AI anyway?

No, they are viewed exactly the same. Please edit the hinting out.

Well my dad only has a 56K modem to get online, which, disapointingly was bought to activate RA3, irony eh?

He likes to play V the PC AI as he can start and stop when he wants and he enjoys it, so who am i to complain. i agree, online is much better, but he has no interest. He just likes to build units/men and go batter something :)

Might show him homeworld and see if he likes it...

Loops holes? I am actually astounded you read my post, ignored the part where it said "hinting at a competitor is also against the rules" and turned it in to a "loop hole".

I really should not be surprised by such things anymore, but it's almost as if people believe that moderators won't notice things like hinting, signing up to multiple accounts, spam, swearing and goodness knows what else if they disguise it a little...

Either way, back to the original topic, I actually need to get my butt in to gear and put some effort in to it, currently have to play through Dead Space though, I just completed Tomb Raider Underworld - so am slowly (but surely) getting through my list of games, from previous experiences though I have always enjoyed RA games.

I bought this game for £15 recently and have just completed the Soviet missions. I love everything about the game, the graphics, the units, the story, the missions.

And if your Dad just likes to build units and go 'batter' stuff then RA3 is definitely not for him, that's the last thing you want to do in that game. I really like how they make you think a little about what units you should build in order to combat the enemy rather than just zerging them with 100 tanks.

Quite supprised no one recommended Dawn of war with all the expansion packs. Probably get the whole set for £30-40. How about getting your dad Starcraft 2 when it comes out.

I got mine for either £15 or £20, Thats all the actually game and all the expansions new, Dawn of War: Complete Collection

Awsome game, would definately reccomend it, but it does focus around just swamping the enemy with core troops, fun none the less =p

From what i've played of RA3 i've really enjoyed it so far. Its not a hardcore stratergy game like CoH and it never claimed to be. Same as C&C3, these games about having fun and enjoying the cheesy acting in the cut scenes. They're never going to give you a massive cerebral workout, but just sit back and enjoy the craziness!

Well my dad liked RA and C&C games. Maybe CoH has spoilt him and he wants good game play with good graphics. Maybe the cartoonism of RA3 got to him? not sure, all i know is after one day its in its box and he has moved on to SupCom instead.

Didnt know CoH had a new bit coming xmas time, that will be a nice suprise for him.

I've liked all the C&C games I've played, C&C3 is a decent enough game, fun to play through and multiplayer over lan is alright.
Not hearing too many good things about RA3 from anyone though, think I'll give it a miss.

I know they do a COH gold pack but for the life of me i cannot get hold of a copy, everywhere says 'on order with manufacturer (or something)

anyone have any ideas ?

I've seen it as low as £14 --- but its useless since its not in stock :(

I got it from a well know auction site, for a little over £10 :D
It was from singapore or thailand, perfectly legitimate though, brand new and sealed. The only drawback(?) was I had to wait three weeks, but was definitely worth the wait.
