This is odd. I've been playing Red Dead for hours day in day out. I just went to play it and my PS3 couldn't read the disc. So I took the disc out and noticed a small crack coming from the centre ring leading out to where the data starts. I have no idea how this could happen as I teat my games better than I treat myself as gaming is my life. I Googled to find if there was anyway of getting a replacement disc and noticed a lot of peoples copy of Red Dead for the PS3 as had a crack appear on the disc in the same place as mine.

What could possibly have caused this? My PS3 Slim as never damaged a disc before. You can imagine how I feel after paying £49.99 for the collectors Edition for this to happen. I've sent a message to Rockstar Support to see if I can get a replacement disc. I'll be furious if they don't help. :(

Are you careful with how you take it in and out of the game case? I had a Fifa 08 break in the same way that you describe because I wasn't fully pushing in the centre button on the game cases to release the disk. I thought I was, but I wasn't, strangely it only ever happened with Fifa 08 though.

I doubt that Rockstar will help as it's not really a problem with their disk (first time I've heard of this happening with red dead so it's not a batch of sub quality disks) but more of an end-user problem.
As killswitch said, you were probably heavy handed taking it out of the case, or maybe you bumped / moved the console with the disk in - or maybe your mum (or spouse) did, either way I can't see Rockstar taking responsibility, very very very remote chance but possibly the retailer you bought it from (if you still have receipt) might help.
Sucks though, I feel for you.

i'd be surprised if Rockstar dont send a replacement disc tbh As long as they are made known that the OP does have a genuine copy of RDR.

My copy of Test Drive Unlimited went the same way on the Xbox 360, a little crack appeared, from the centre of the disk one day. Only time I've had it to happen to any of my disc-based games. I'm sure that the speed at which the 360 spins discs didn't help (before HDD installs).

Either way the retailer took it back and replaced it after I sent it back in. I'm sure that Rockstar Games will replace it for a admin fee, at worst case.

Good luck.

Well I sent a message through there support messaging thingy. Telling them how heart broken I was along with a little Rockstar ass kissing. Hopefully that'll work. :D

From what I've heard on the playstation forums it's caused by putting the disc back in the case when it is still hot so I'd suggest that if the game disc is hot when it comes out of the console that you leave it to cool down before putting it back in it's case (which is what I'm doing now).

if you have no luck and dont mind being a little dishonest (and your disc is immaculate) id pop into your local games shop and buy another copy only to return 30mins later to say you just opened it and it was cracked and you want a refund as your peeved you had to come back and pay for parking/bus again.

i know this isnt very honest, and i havent had to do this.... yet, but the game shop will return it to the supplier as faulty and not loose anything where as best case scenario you will have to ship your disc back and pay for the replacement, shouldnt be more then £10/£15 but its still cheaper if its free!

That is very cheeky but for the price of the game that you paid I would probably do that if I were you. I would wait to hear back from RS and then do this.
