So everyone's raving about red dead redemption and I've just returned from 2 weeks touring Injun territory in the US of Eh and I'm feeling a really strong need to buy an Xbox to play this game.

Thing is.

I've been a first person PC gamer since Doom on a 3.1 machine and have never been near a console since the old megadrive days.

Guess the question is. Just how good is the controller on the Xbox?

Will I miss WSAD and the mouse?

Should I wait a year till it appears on the PC anyway?

Should I wait till the new 360 appears or snap up an arcade version with all the goodies currently being offered by our friends in the jungle/ rainforest?

Before I spend money and make a mistake?

?

Controller is fantastic. Best I've used.

No, you won't miss WASD. Playing on a 360 puts you on an even playing field and the controller is very capable.

Read Dead is not actually THAT fantastic. Not a console buying game anyway. Some moments are pretty incredible (boosted by some fantastic music), but certainly not the best game this year. I only have a 360, did have a PS3 - if you're going to buy A console for A game make it a PS3 with Uncharted 2. If you want to play more than one game (and IMO has a much better library) get a 360.

Get the new 360 - be a devil. ;)

I was a PC gamer too and I've now been 100% converted to consoles. It doesn't take much to master a controller and the 360 is controller is arguably the best their is. nearly 5 years on I now I even prefer a controller to keyboard for fps!

Yes. It's only 2 more weeks and can be had for £185. You'd be mad not to.

I was a hardcore pc gamer till some guy gave me his old 360, now i got red dead for it and it was soo good! its a 3rd person game and if it was on the pc i would still use a 360 pad like i did in gta 4 for pc, it just feels so much better than crappy wasad.

Seems daft to buy one for one game, especially as it looks like it will end up on the PC at some point. If you want it for other 360 console exclusives then sure go for it, personally if you dont need wireless the elite deals at the moment seem to make more sense than waiting to get a 360 stumpy.

Is it just me that finds red dead rather average then?

Yeah it's ok in parts but it's quite buggy and I just don't find myself wanting to play it all the time. I had the day off today and ended up working on the house instead of playing, which is very odd.

360 controller is good, but even after years of playing I still don't find it better than keyboard & mouse.

I've been playing PC games since Doom as well.

Now sold the PC and game purely on the Xbox / PS3 (i've got both) never looked back. Most of the PC games now are just console ports. They play better on the console hardware, on a 40inch HDTV in your living room on the couch with a beer with surroundsound.

If you've got £240 to spend, wait for the new Xbox slim. (inc. £40 for red dead)

Do it.

Though unlike some id never primarily swap pc gaming for console gaming, there are some games you just cant get on pc yet like red dead and its much more relaxing to lounge in on your sofa playing it then sitting in a office chair :D

I got sick of the race to upgrade for new games on the PC only to get bad ports anyway so I went straight to the source and got myself a 360 about 7 months ago and haven't looked back, took a week to get really comfortable with playing FPS's on the controller but all the other games were great, especially third person ones like gta4 and red dead.

Get one mate, you won't regret it.
Plus there's a massive back catalogue of games available really cheap from various stores and ebay, I went mad and bought games games games haha and I still haven't played them all.

Why wait? Something else will be out then.

Get the new one, you'll have a brand spanking new console that's just been released and you'll have WiFi plus a 250gb hard drive to install games to, reducing disc drive noise and sometimes shortening load times.

All in all, if you want one get one!

Ive been a pc gamer since quake etc and earlier this year decided to try some 360 malarky as somebody gave me a 360 foc.
I reckon it took me near on 200hrs playtime to get half decent with a pad for aiming fps games compared to a mouse and wsad (esdf in my case :) ) you will miss the mouse/kb for a while but not for too long if you stick at the pad.
Other game styles ie 3rd person, driving games, platformers etc you will pick up much faster.
My biggest gripe about console gaming is playing at sub 60fps and low res uurghh still miss 100fps min bigtime and the ability to tweak games to suit me.
On the whole thou they aint that bad and lotsa fun when you get a few m8s playing online.
