Red dead has me wanting a 360 - Help!

To be fair, I played the whole game on expert aim mode and it was still really easy. But it didn't detract from the overall experience, I absolutely loved it.

I had red dead on ps3 and sold because the framerate and graphics were terrible (But the game and gameplay is brillant) I hoping it comes on the pc even if it is a port like gta it will look and play so much better.
If you havent got a a console you will not be dissapointed with a ps3 (yes some games do play and look better on the xbox i.e red dead)

I really liked Red Dead, but your probably right in saying that buying an xbox just to play that is a bit ott. If you are pining for a western game, Bound in Blood is very good imo, and its pretty cheap now for PC.

Update. I actually ended up buying a slim and really enjoyed Red Dead for a week or so but I just couldn't get on with the controller , at all, especially during the racing bits. Soo I stuck it on the bay. Most expensive game I ever played ? Nah not really. But I guess someone had a good Xmas cos of it.

Once a PC gamer always a PC gamer. There really is no comparison

Just read this thread and so everyone can keep up, the OP has updated saying he bought a box and RDR but stuck it on the bay just over a week later or so.
Got tired of reading people still recommending him buy a box to get it lol

I am an avid PC gamer but have to say the PS3 has some very good exclusives. Hard Rain to name but one.

Heavy Rain. :) Out of the two the PS3 has the better selection of exclusive titles IMO.

Controller problems are a non issue really, I'll swap between mouse and pad without any confusion. Once you get past the getting used to it phase it's fine. No more difficult than a new person learning to aim with a mouse.

Nope. I'm sorry but using a controller is just wrong. It feels alien. And I absolutely cannot stand any form of "button mashing " Whatsoever.

Plus the fact that the graphics look total pants on a 360 compared to a good PC.

ANYWAY. I'm now off to revel in the sheer beauty of Oblivion in all its glory (at 2560 res the graphics on this game still take some beating - even 5 years later)

Awesome.

I've been a first person PC gamer since Doom on a 3.1 machine and have never been near a console since the old megadrive days.

There's your answer. I would say definitely no to buying a console. I bought a 360 and had sold it within a week. Just did not like the feel of the pad, HATED the inferior graphics in every game. No AA on consoles so a lot of the games were as jagged as hell.

People who are raving about it are, of course, going to be 360 owners. The mentality of a lot of console owners is different to PC gamers'. Don't buy a console just for a game.

Oops just noticed how old this thread was. Exactly my feeling. Could not get used to the controller and the crappy graphics for every single game.

Like I said, I sold my 360 within a week of purchase.

Incorrect, most 360 games do but there is little AA can do when the Res is ~720p and on a 40" TV.

I own both and I can see the strenghts of both platforms. My 360 gets just as much playtime as my PC and I play the same kind of games on both. Also my own personal opinion having an isf calibrated TV helps massively to the consoles graphics.

Bingo. Have a decent PC + Xbox + PS3. They've all got strengths and weaknesses.

In addition, graphics aren't everything, and certainly not an excuse to miss out on some of the great console exclusives.

Agree. Tonight I had a bit of a gaming sess.
Started with soul calibur on the dc, switched to mvc3 on the 360 for a bit, then moved onto some wipeout and mk9 on the ps3 and after a break will be playing some starcraft2 on pc with some mates...

Best of all worlds surely, why limit yourself to one gaming machine? You just end up missing out on so many quality games.

And lets be honest compared to the constant releases on consoles , the pc is miles behind.

Well I ran the 360 through the Sony KDL46X4500 and surround sound system in my living room but as big as it looked? It sucked.

No disrespect intended here but I just can't do sofa gaming. I like my pooter room. Away from it all. It's a private thing, gaming. Not a living room thing. The prospect of a Wii or a Kinect makes me flesh crawl.

Some great games on console that I am missing out on too sadly i can't really afford to get a console right now.

Red dead is the main one for me, also Limbo, heavy rain, uncharted games and gods of war 3 make me want consoles, bah!

Not that I would have time to play them though

I bought a 360 back when they were £300. I bought it for GoW, so pretty much the same situation as the OP. GoW was great tho :) Absolute blast with two players.

After I finished the game I played Dead Rising, Viva Pinata and... well, I can't remember any others. I only kept the console a few months after finishing GoW and sold it on for half what I'd bought it for.

I did immediately afterwards buy a 360 controller for my PC tho. Lovely little thing, it is.

There were two things that made me sell the 360... one, I just wasn't excited by the games available and two, the NOISE! Like a swarm of bees fighting an elephant in the middle of a volcano.

So everyone's raving about red dead redemption and I've just returned from 2 weeks touring Injun territory in the US of Eh and I'm feeling a really strong need to buy an Xbox to play this game.

Thing is.

I've been a first person PC gamer since Doom on a 3.1 machine and have never been near a console since the old megadrive days.

Guess the question is. Just how good is the controller on the Xbox?

Will I miss WSAD and the mouse?

Should I wait a year till it appears on the PC anyway?

Should I wait till the new 360 appears or snap up an arcade version with all the goodies currently being offered by our friends in the jungle/ rainforest?

Before I spend money and make a mistake?

?

Two words for Red Dead Redemption:

Vastly overrated.

Wish I saw your post earlier.

Go for it dude, the original Red Dead Revolver was ace, then they made the 2nd one of what has to be one of the best games of all time. Especially as its well made great story with a ace characters! Its just a shame it isn't coming out for the PC anytime soon.
