Has anyone bought this yet?

I haven’t played either the first or RDR2

Just wondering what people thought of it..and if it’s worth £31.99 to a newcomer?

Cheers

I’ll probs buy both…just wanted to know if anyone bought the first one and was the upgrade 60FPS enough to get you to buy it.
No.. and no. The second is a VERY long game. I wouldn’t even bother burning myself out playing the inferior first game, before playing the superior second. Unless of course you really want to.

I’ve just bought RDR2….I’ll Start playing that and by the time I finish it….RDR1 will be 8.99 :p

Good shout. Honestly man, if you play the first game, you’ll burn yourself out before even attempting the second.

The second, being set before the first, you can go in with no knowledge from the first. It’s the better game, with a better protag.

Just saved me from buying the first haha

Damn. Mis-read the thread title and thought there was a £31 4k60 update for the PS5 version of RDR2 :o

Playing RDR2 first is a bit of a mistake, you'll miss some weight to the story and one of the most powerful scenes in the epilogue only works if you know what happens to Marston and Abigail.

In general, a lot of the impact of the story comes from knowing the events of RDR1 and being able to appreciate Arthur's perspective so I'd actually advocate a reverse order for this one.

Also, the only thing RDR1 is inferior to 2 in is graphics/world detail. Nothing else. The story is just as compelling if not better overall, just not tied by Arthur's character.

If you start with 2 and become interested enough in the story, then 1 will not be a pleasant transition because of the graphics.

Having said that, I wouldn't buy 1 at that price.

I recently played through 1 again and yes as above the story is very important. It isn’t a long game and the recent 60fps was a nice addition. Having said that during my play I did wish at times that I was playing 2 because of the QoL improvements and graphics which are outstanding. Again, you could just YouTube the story of 1 to get to know John and Abigail better and the story in 2 will definitely mean much more to you. One of the major draws to 2 is Arthur Morgan’s story so if you don’t care about the above then just play it for that.

I started RDR2 last night…I only fired it up to see if the locked 30FPS would annoy me and I was curious what it looked like on my 77” G3 Oled… I can report back I was not affected by it…it looked amazing….it was like being in my own western film…:D

I only meant to play a few minutes of it…but got drawn in..so I ended up completing the first mission…

Having looked at the RDR1 game for £31.99 I feel it’s been a lazy attempt to cash in…They should have done a proper remake like The Last of Us for PS5….I‘m sure the RDR1 game is amazing…but if you’ve paid for it before and completed it…I doubt there would be any urge to buy it again just for 4K 60FPS…

My PC gaming hiatus as been quite fruitful up to now..and PS5 has been a nice addition as I’m getting older I’m losing the interest to tinker with settings and like the sofa as a gaming environment…At £18 RDR2 is a steal imo…and I’ve decided to continue with it…I’ll pick up RDR1 when it drops in price…I’ve been picking up games cheap from PSN Store in the sale and have quite a few to get through…the 30FPS is a non issue for me in this type of game….which is quite an eye opener for me…

I really do think there has been missed opportunity not giving RDR1 a complete overhaul.

Definitely 30fps is not too much of a problem with this game on an OLED for some reason - I feel the same way when usually my eyes are crying at this frame rate. Not sure why maybe it’s the pace of it. Glad you’re into it as it’s one of the best games ever made in my opinion. You’re in for a treat.

Agreed Arthur is great and even if he is an outlaw and a murderer he’s a real gent. Whoever the actor is is also brilliant. I’m in Spain atm but making my way back home now (driving) and I can’t wait to get back to it.
