Like many others, I have longed for a PC release of Red Dead Redemption. However, the chances of it happening are slim to none. So, with time to waste and a hankering for some Wild West themed shenanigans, I decided to explore the only option that exists to bring the title to the PC. Namely, PS GO. Presently there is a free seven day trial on offer, so it's a good time to give it a whirl.

Requirements -

PlayStation Go software - Download and run. The rest is self explanatory.

PlayStation account - You'll be prompted to create this when you first run the PS Go software

Payment method - Signing up for the 7-day trial requires you to register a payment source. Cancel after signing up!

Decent internet connection - I'm using BT fibre. Anything less would probably struggle

Controller - It says on the official site that a PS controller is needed, however I used the one from my Xbox 360 and it worked fine.

Here are the steps I took to get this running -

1. Visit - https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/explore/playstation-now/ - And "click the start your trial" button.

2. Mid way down the page there is a download link for the PS Now software. Click it and install the software, then run it.

3. Click the red Sign In button in the top right, and create an account (unless you already have one, in which case just log in)

4. Once signed in, you'll see an ad for the 7-day trial. Click it! Some connection verification tests will be run, then you'll be able to proceed

5. At this point you'll be asked for payment details. **You'll want to cancel this as soon as you start your trial in order to avoid being charged (See Step 6)**

***6. Once you've verified your payment info, you need to cancel it to avoid being charged. Visit the link in step 1 and sign into your account. Once signed in, click the little square grey face in the top corner and you'll be taken to your account page (note: if you're a new user, you might have to verify your email address before being able to view your acc details). When you have access to your account dashboard, you'll see your payment sources in the bottom left panel. Select "manage payment" options and remove the card you previously registered. Now there's no risk of being charged.***

7. Locate your desired gamed (RDR hopefully) and select it. Click start.

In closing. Make sure to cancel your subscription straight away, otherwise it will auto-renew at the end of your trial (obviously not relevant if you decide to continue with your sub).

Sure it's not perfect and yeah the graphics are ***** compared to what most of us are used to, however it's about the only option we have to be able to play this game (and others...) on the PC. It took about 15mins to setup and cost nowt. So if you're fancying an evening of Wild West themed mayhem and have a little time to spare, see above.

PS Now is pretty good, I tested it with Last of Us and few games and it was pretty much like playing on PS3. Too bad playing on PS3 sucks due to lowres graphics and terrible framerates, not to mention long loading times :)

Going to try The Last of Us this evening. The irony now being that I just can't get on with RDR. It runs fine for me, albeit at a resolution that I'm not used to. I think my tastes have changed since I last played it though. Still, it was worth a mess around.
