Red Hat System Administration I (RH124)

I haven't done the courses but having done the RHCSA and RHCE exams I would suggest maybe looking at the more advanced/condensed courses if you already use RHEL/CentOS. The ones bundled with exams are better value and you (hopefully) get a decent qualification out of it too :).

What is your current skill level compared with the course and exam curriculums?

If your Linux knowledge is pretty reasonable, i.e. you can manage things without having to think about them (like LVM) then I'd agree with AndrewP as the condensed courses + exams are good ... but they are really revision course not learning courses, it's ok if there are couple of bit you don't know as you don't use them but you should know most of them already.(*)

If you don't know that much yet I'd say self study till you do and then try for the RHCSA and work from there. There is nothing wrong with the course you listed but you should be able to self study up to the RHCSA level.

(*) I did the week long revision course + RHCSA & RHCE exams for RHEL6 ... good fun but I did have 10+ years of Linux and Unix experience at the time so knew most of it already (apart from a few little bits like iSCSI).

i did my RHCSA with no work linux experience, just self study and passed first time, the RHCE on the other hand i wouldnt have had a hope in, and now i could take it im not sure its worth it when ive got the experience on the CV anyway, id say unless your employer is paying for the course, dont bother and just take the RHCSA exam, save yourself the best part of 2 grand.

I am the only sys admin where I work so I'm mostly self taught. I have been using RHEL for about 3 years now. My skills are OK but I think I need to improve them starting with the basics. I don't know if my company will pay but I don't mind paying if it improves my skills. I don't solely use Linux in my current position. I am looking to specialise my career more as I can currently look after all of my company's infrastructure.

I think there is Red Hat System Administration I and II before you sit the exam.

If you have the knowledge then you can do RH200 which revises the syllabus and gives you the RHCSA exam at the end. Or just the exam. You don't have to do the System Administration courses first.

Personally I did the RH300 which revises loads and then you do the RHCSA in the morning and the RHCE in the afternoon. I would note that the RH200 course was running at the same time as I was on the RH300 and judging by the conversations going on when the people on that course left their exam room I'd say at least 50% had failed.
