New incident: (1st August)

I didn't get done but...

I've had another incident with this F-ing camera. This time coming past it so it was on my side of the road. (So from the Google link above I'm coming towards the the perspective of the Street Maps view)

Big lorry in front of me waiting to turn right and lots of oncoming traffic, I waited behind the light. As the traffic cleared he begins to turn right so I go through the green light, which on passing turns to amber and then onto red. I'm still in the middle of the junction when the light is on red, as is the white van behind me.

These things should be illegal on such junctions. Red light cameras are designed to catch people who deliberately and willingly speed through red lights, not raise revenue by catching people out in a devious manner.

Maybe I'll be fine but it's just just annoying. If I get done I never technically ran through a red light so I maybe I'll be fine.

This doesn't bode well.

Junctions controlled by traffic lights

You MUST NOT move forward over the white line when the red light is showing. Only go forward when the traffic lights are green if there is room for you to clear the junction safely or you are taking up a position to turn right. If the traffic lights are not working, treat the situation as you would an unmarked junction and proceed with great care.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 36

I thought the bold bit was only the case with box junctions, this wasn't a box junction.

Fingers crossed the white van behind will get done and blocked out my plate. Or perhaps the law is just DO NOT run the red light and that's it.

When it's green, you should be expecting it to change to amber. Not hoping for amber so you can floor it

We've all been there though

I crossed the line gently at about 5mph it's just the lorry took several seconds to complete the turn and I suddenly found myself stuck in the middle of the junction and the lights turned red. In fact I was in 1st gear in auto mode and didn't even touch the gas which gives you an idea of how slowly I crept forward.

It wasn't a box junction therefore no hatching therefore I do not have to wait behind the white line until the junction is completely clear.

I've really done nothing consciously wrong here to break the law and deserve a punishment. The whole setup is extremely devious.

Actually look at this again:

You MUST NOT move forward over the white line when the red light is showing. Only go forward when the traffic lights are green if there is room for you to clear the junction safely or you are taking up a position to turn right. If the traffic lights are not working, treat the situation as you would an unmarked junction and proceed with great care.

So had I been turning right like the lorry (and there was room for both of us) then the light went red I wouldn't have broken the law. Instead I was stuck behind the lorry, cleared the lights and the white line when the lights turned red, but was going straight on not turning right.
