Red Orchestra 41-45

if you are into slow paced tactical gameplay then i say go for it :)
if however you prefer the dm run and gun style avoid it like the plague!
the graphics arent up to todays standards but are adequate for the purpose and the game overall has a good balance and once you grasp it (after getting shot a hell of a lot at first) it can become very engrossing waiting for the next victim down them iron sights :)
hiow do the guest passes work? i can always send you one as i appear to have them no my steam account for this...

I'll send you a guest pass if you want. I like it. Not got much play out of it lately though as I have too many other things to play.

^^too late I guess :p

You can send a guest pass to an email address or a steam username. Eitherway they both just go to an email address I think. They're easy enough to use.

I have a guest pass if you would like to try it. Email in trust. Let me know if you want it.

edit: wow I really should read the posts before me :p

It's a poor man's Call of Duty 3, basically.

Not a CoD fanboy before anyone starts - I just found the latest version of Call of Duty to be like a better version of Red Orchestra.

Was extremely excited about RO when I first bought it - read endless reviews and watched countless videos. Things like real time bullets (dipping over distance etc) and massive maps promised much but when it came to playing it, it delivered little.

It was SO slow. Reloading your gun is slow, running is slow, aiming down your sight is slow, movements are slow and woeful. The whole thing is just totally unpolished for my liking - and it didn't take me long to take the discs out of the cd drives. I just didn't get into it at all.

As mentioned, it's very tactical and I do appreciate it for what it is - for example, the maps and 'dirtiness' of the enviroments and in game experience are excellent, leaps and bounds ahead of anything else WWII related.

But it's so unbareably unpolished and sluggish for me.

Very good game if you understand it

Capture the objs.

Dont camp at spawn

Dont always run out in the open

Take cover

Rest your weapons on any object you can( perfect aim)

To name a few

I find pulling off a decent shot in this game is much more satisfying(sp?) then many others

Lads, I'd really appreciate a free pass. Given that my main obsession outside of women and PC's is WWII then I assume I'd really like this game.

I really don't think you appreciate what the game is about. COD and RO are COMPLETELY diferrent.

Everything you have mentioned about RO is down to realism.

I like both COD and RO for what they are.............completely different WW2 FPS games.

Call of Duty is like Indiana Jones. It makes you feel like you can take on the entire Reich by yourself. RO is more like what life was like on the Eastern Front in WWII. Dirty, gritty, and deadly.

Although CoD might give you a feeling of instant gratification, RO gives you a rewarding sense of satisfaction when you finally get that perfect shot from across the bridge with an old Mosin Nagant bolt action rifle, or when you set up the perfect ambush with the MG42 and mow down an entire squad of angry Russians.

Going back to that Mosin Nagant: The weapons are perfect. They are extremely realistic and true in form and function to the actual real guns. The weapons in CoD -although seemingly realistic- just don't handle the same as their real life counterparts (the weapon animations are just too dynamic, the recoil is unrealistic, the sounds are more than a bit "off", etc)

Not really. The movement is the poorest I have played in any game. It feels sluggish and just makes for really uncomfortable and less than enjoyable game play.

This isn't down to 'realism' - it's down to the movements being off from what you would expect / hope for.

As for CoD and RO being different - or completely different - I'm aware of this. In saying that I appreciated it for what it was, I didn't necessarily mean that I liked it for the same reasons.

BlairH, I don't disagree with you. Call of Duty is good for those very reasons though. In being fast-paced it dilutes realism - but makes for an enjoyable game and a different experience to that of RO.

@Slogan:

I can't see ppl in real life running around like idiots shooting, the slow movement is to prevent ppl from running into death ( or actually to make them die if they do stupid things ) , Red orchestra is somewhat the only game that so far came close to realism in ww2 imo.
U ever seen ww2 battles, 1 whole side was is usually is some trench or somewhere taking cover and only 1 side is attacking, in RO for exampel in Danzig, this is very visible, axis just stand behind walls and soviets attack.

I like RO movement prevent stupid things like axis sprinting around & shooting killing everyone @ danzig bridges.

I suppose some ppl like it some don't, btw I love both realism and non realism, RO is awesome imo, but games like MoH:AA and CoD too.
